Description

Tasting Notes:

The light alcohol comes with serious precision, making sure we pick the grapes on exactly the right date to make sure they are sweet enough to give you the watermelon, rose petal flavours but not too sweet to make the wine heavy.  The nose is a burst of fresh fruit while the palate is so bracingly dry that you want another sip instantly.

Food Pairing
Beef tartare with a drizzle of truffle oil, served with crunchy sour dough toast. Or a chunky country pâté with sticky onion marmalade? Grilled salmon fillets, done on the braai with a Hoisin sauce.  But if you also just want to drink a bottle, because its Monday, then that’s the best choice of all.

Warwick Wine Estate at a glance...

Warwick Estate is a family-owned and run winery. Managing Director Michael Ratcliffe is the 3rd generation family member to oversee this high quality boutique operation. From 1771 till 1902, Warwick was known as the farm ‘De Goede Sukses’.

After the Anglo Boer war ended in 1902, Colonel William Alexander Gordon, Commanding Officer of the Warwickshire regiment bought the historic farm.

He renamed it ‘Warwick’ as a tribute to his regiment and the rest, as they say, is history.
Stan Ratcliffe purchased Warwick on April 1st 1964 after an extensive search for the best ‘terroir’ in the Cape.

Together with his wife Norma, they soon realized the potential of the extraordinary property and began planting Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Cabernet Sauvignon vines produced high quality grapes, which were soon in demand from neighbouring wineries.

One of the original historic winery properties of Stellenbosch – Warwick has become known as one of the most welcoming destinations with a truly friendly ambience. Open 365 days a year, join us for our famed ‘Gourmet Picnic’, a tutored wine tasting, bring your friends & family for a ‘BIG 5 WINE SAFARI’ or just laze around on our magnificent lawns under the trees. This kid-friendly historic property will wow you.

Warwick prides itself in offering personal one on one interaction with their wine advisors, where you will discover Professor Black, The Black Lady and the notorious Three Cape Ladies. The more romantically inclined can sample out of the Wedding Cup whilst being told the fairytale of the King’s daughter and her silversmith lover. Not only are the tastings informative and enjoyable, it is guaranteed to leave a lasting experience. For the devoted Professor Black aficionados, the luscious, crisp and clean 2009 vintage is available.

The Warwick godfather, the Trilogy 2007, an eagerly anticipated Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot is in one word, ‘phenomenal’. The must-have blend has been nurtured in the Warwick barrel room for 24 months, ensuring, yet again, a finest first-class Estate wine. Warwick is still one of the few wineries where an array of old and rare vintages is available.
