Our vision is to develop Olyvenbosch into an award winning boutique olive oil producing farm and to supply the highest quality extra virgin olive oil to the discerning buyer.
Olyvenbosch Olive Farm on the slopes of the Paarl mountain range in the Western Cape region of South Africa is a family owned farm that grows and produces olives & award winning extra virgin olive oil under the quality standards of the SA Olive Association.
Olyvenbosch has pioneered and introduced a successful ‘bag in a box’ packaging to their product, which gives the consumer a practical, hygienic & controlled tap dispenser and guarantees that the quality extra virgin olive oil contents retains its freshness until the last drop.
Olyvenbosch is in Windmeul, Agter Paarl on the Northern slopes of the Paarl Mountain range with views of Table Mountain in the distance.
When the farm was purchased in 2004 by the van Eyssen family, it was planted with 22ha of table grapes supplying the export table grape market.
During the first 4 years additions were made to the lifestyle component of the farm and in 2009 a strategic business diversification decision was made to remove 5ha of table grapes and replant 2650 olive trees. The following year another 5000 trees were planted to undeveloped land. The farm is currently (2012) under 12ha of table grapes and 17.5ha of olive trees (8626 in total).
After purchasing Olyvenbosch in 2004, Paul spent the first 4 years restructuring the lifestyle component of the farm & aquatinting himself with the table grape farming business. The current manager, Niel Botha, joined the farm in 2005 with 9 years of table grape experience and having studied at Elsenberg Agricultural College.
A tree line of 350 olive trees started producing a small harvest of olives which produced 150L of olive oil in 2009. A strategic business decision saw 5ha of ‘unperforming’ table grapes being replaced by 2650 olive trees, 3 specific oil cultivars & 2 eating olive varieties. In 2010 Olyvenbosch Extra Virgin Olive Oil was branded in a 2L “On Tap” bag in a box and 1500L was sold out in 5 months.
The farm invested in it’s own imported olive oil press and, buying in selected olive varieties produced 10 000 L of award winning extra virgin olive oil in the first year of pressing.
The 1L, 2L, 5L & 10L “On Tap” boxes were introduced to the olive oil range along with a quality black Kalamata & green Manzanilla eating olive and in 2012 the team produced two SA Olive Gold & Silver Award winning oils.
